CNY day 2

CNY Special 23

Cho 2, its normal routine to visit grandma and maternal side of relatives every Nin Cho 2. There, i would be sitting around eating, drinking and watching tv. I ate so much that my stomach was no longer sensitive to any distension anymore. I ate and ate and ate and yet i didn't not feel anything. I was immune to a full stomach, just like how my throat infection got immune to Amoxycillin after the bacteria jumped from my brothers and finally reached me in an much more resistant form. Thus, i had to take on Clarithromycin 500mg instead during CNY. Never had any medication on CNY before and i just took one 15 minutes ago. I wonder will the antibiotics be absorb with so much junk in my stomach. Before i deviate too much from my day's story, we went to watch Fearless at GSC 1 Utama in the evening and reached home in time for the dinner. Its another heavy dinner at grandma's place and more food went to the gully. The 'Lei Yu' (carp) with ginger was great and i loved the well-cooked roe which dissolved right on the tongue. Yes, i definitely went for the roe's before even touching the fish. After the dinner, went upstairs and watched 2 Stephen Chow movies in a row. When we were sick of comedies, then we watched delayed telecast the PGA Tour Buick International in which Tiger Woods won until near midnight. Everyone is getting sleepy and i drove home in father's place as he was losing his sober after having whiskeys and cognac in a toast at grandma's place. And thats my day 2 story.
In the end, i reached home and took out the red packets from my pocket. Found out that i got more angpaus than the day before, yeah!
CNY Special 23.... not so special after all - it's just routine

CNY!!!!!

CNY Special 22

Yes... 22nd blog and its CNY !!!! Happy Chinese New Year to everyone who celebrates and those who doesn't. All the best in the New Year of DOG!!!!

As usual, my 1st day of CNY, Chor 1, my family would visit all our relatives in turns. We travelled north to Sg. Buloh and then south to Cheras. The long journey on the car was nothing when i got to get angpaus', load of them, ngek ngek ngek.

Dik Dong Chiang! Dick Dong Chiang! Chiang! Chiang!
And the morning was lightened by the drums and clamps of the lion dance troupe who came to the neighbour's house. I leaped out of bed after hearing that, grabbed my camera and ran out with my pyjamas on.

Drum chased away Nian and brought hope to the world

Lions preparing offerings from mandarin oranges.

Let's have a nap.

dik dong chiang dik dong chiang chiang chiang

great show... the lions, resting....

Praying altar from the previous night.

After the lion dance, its time to wash up and start our day. First we went to uncles place.

Ok, u didn't bath but give face play with you
Its your year anyway.

Bro riding the old yamaha

My uncles lives in a new village in Sg. Buloh. It's not so strict on road regulations there, so i took the motorcycle out for a ride. I do not possess a riding license but since even 10 yr olds ride bikes at the village, i ignored the rules. I ride without an helmet.

Then, we left about noon after the vegetarian lunch prepared by my aunt to the next uncle at cheras. The traffic was exceptionally smooth and we managed to reach in half an hour.

It's the same thing at uncle's place where we ate and drink, ate and drink and watched tv when the older generation had their chat. I was too bored and take a photo of my baby niece. Then played with nephew Marvin in his imaginary car.

Hi, Trisha!
She delighted with all the cookies and food for CNY

Little Marvin. Envied his natural brown hair.

We spent 2 hours at uncle's place and went to another relative's for a visit. After that, we headed home exhausted. Fun to find my pocket... full of angpau's ngek ngek ngek...

Reunion dinner

CNY Special 21

Reunion dinner is a must for every family that celebrates CNY. Since my paternal grandparents is not here anymore, our reunion dinner is very much like our dinner every single day. The differences are atmosphere and, what else.. food! Aunt and mom made a sumptous reunion dinner for us. YUM! YUM!

Aunt preparing dinner

Our dinner

Other than the normal chicken, xiu yok and vege, our chef came out with some great dishes....

Fatt Choy with scallops

Tomato prawns

Hakka nga gu

Shanghai dumplings

Nothing compares to having reunion dinner as a family.

The reunion dinner is one my favourite meals of the year. We had a great time at the dinner table and our dinner last for an hour as there were so much to be finished. After dinner, it will be time to usher the CNY!!!!!!!!

IMU facelift

CNY Special 20

IMU is under renovation during this CNY holiday and the construction of the additional level and auditoriums are underway. Although some of the noises made by machineries were disturbing, we continued with our class like before.

Frames erected at the atrium for the elevation of the sun-roof.

A very much different scenery.

No access to rooftop.
Canteen is relocated to the ground floor

Wooden planks to pave the floor to protect the tiles.

After the renovation or restructure, our university will look more like a university rather than an abandoned shopping complex. Although we might not be able to witness the whole project to be completed, i really wished our juniour will have a great time in the refurbished campus. With the new buildings and lecture halls, our school will be able to accomodate more students and more courses can be provided. These new courses would be biomedical sciences, biotechnology, medical radiology, and also....

Hair-dressing courses....

So, Toni & Guy and Snips, u better watch out!

Greetings

CNY Special 18

There's a struggle in my mind. Should i do it? Shouldn't i do it? I am worried that it might be a little obscene and some people may take it too seriously and starts to despise me. I always wanted to do that but i didn't not want to perturb people's feelings, especially near CNY when everyone should be jolly and happy. But i still feel that it sounds more like it with this spelling compared to the traditional one. Oh no... don't care la! Just do it la....

Nian Nian You Yu

CNY Special 17

Once upon a time, in a far away land lives 2 golden carp in the Southern Seas. One fine day, they decided to venture further away and reached the Eastern Sea's Gate of Heaven and met the God of the Eastern Seas. The God of the Eastern Seas granted them the ability to talk and the intelligence above any fishes. With intellect came greed and lust.
They asked the God of the Eastern Seas, "How can we acquire happiness and reach the Paradise of Eternity."
The God of the Eastern Seas went into deep thought. Then he said, "The key to it is SWIM." And he vanished into thin air and the fishes found themselves in the middle of nowhere.
So, for the rest of their lives, they swam from the southern seas to the Mariana Ridges to the Great Man Xi Ru Reefs, from the northern ices to the Red Sea, and yet, they can't find what SWIM was all about.
They were near the end of their lives and they met the God of the ES again. "We can't find SWIM. Please, let us see it before our last breath."
God of the ES smiled. "SWIM? That's what u had been doing all your lifes."
They were enlightened and finally understood what happiness really was. And SWIM they did, freely in the boundless sea, with ups and downs which they experienced together, of companionship, trust and love, they found their happiness.
They rose to the heavens and became 2 of the 9 guardian fishes of the Heaven Gates.

Sometimes in life, in pursue of wealth, love and status, we tend to take things for granted. We are obsessed in achieving our goals but do not realize what we had missed. We would be happier if we learn to cherish everything in our everyday life, our family, our frieds, our environment, our sea, our fishes and ourselves. To enjoy life is to enjoy what we do every moment to the fullest, like how the fishes swam. No point being the richest person in the world and yet losing everything else along the way.

Happy Chinese New Year!
Nian Nian You Yu!

Prosperity this CNY

CNY Special 16

Yes, its the Prosperity Burger from McD and i had a treat for my tummy with it during the weekend. I blogged about BK's Greek Lamb Sandwich and KFC Big Fish Sandwich and now its Prosperity Burger's turn. McD have been serving Prosperity Burger during the CNY for years and it won't be tough for me to comment on it as the burger tasted just as delicious every year.

The set includes a soft drink, curly fries and Prosperity Burger

Will eating it brings prosperity?

Prosper or not, having a mouthful of Prosperity Burger is one great indulgence for my palate. Black pepper sauce coupled with spring onions is a great combination and the succulent beef sandwiched between sesame buns made me drool just by looking at it.

Angpaus from McD's

empty one... duh!

Every set came with a pack of McD's angpau and obviously no money in it. And yet again, it's still bigger than the KFC's Big Fish burger. I am not prejudice towards KFC but it would be more appropriate that they strip the word BIG from their fish sandwich. It would be even better if they use reverse psychology and introduce it as SMALL fish sandwich instead. At least people will anticipate a small sandwich and end up being an average-sized delight rather than a big disappointment.

BK's greek lamb sandwich

CNY Special 15

There's always business rivalry between our fast-food chains, especially during festive periods. Nowadays, the competition is even more prominent as they tried to venture into each others market niches with new products. In my blog a couple of days ago, i wrote that KFC came out with a BIG fish sandwich in which they exaggerated about it's size to dupe consumers into trying them. Then i found out that the less ostentatious Burger King introduced the new Greek Lamb Sandwich. I tried one yesterday.

New Greek Lamb Sandwich

7" long burger

Burger King is pretty honest and they specified the measurements for this sandwich. This giant here is 7 inch long, unlike KFC which boasted of the size of their BIG fish sandwich and ended up to be a BIG letdown.

generous portions of vege and meat

The sandwich i had was great. The meat was juicy and the char-grilled taste was irresistable. Mind the onions if u don' like them. They are generous with the vege portions and i had a bad breath after eating the onions. I will definitely go back to BK for this Greek Lamb sandwich. This is what consumers want, something that's well worth for the money they spent. I was so full after meal and i wonder why didn't they label it as BIG like what KFC did? Maybe BK and KFC had different conceptions of quality and quantity of their products. The former promises value-for-money quality food. On the other hand, the Kent. Food Court came out with incessant promotions for publicity which led to the compromise of the quality of their food.
So what's next? Sure McD's Prosperity Burger la! Gosh! So much calories nowadays and getting fat even before CNY starts.
